6th Form Prospectus

Why Choose King James’s Sixth Form? What are our results like? We are really proud of our results; both students and staff work very hard to get excellent outcomes. Our students consistently achieve excellent exam results. That is not to say we are complacent - every year is a new challenge! A summary of A Level results for 2022 can be found on page 47. How do I know how well I am doing during the course? We use data from FFT20 (an aspirational target setting tool) to indicate what grades you are likely to get based on your GCSE scores. You, your subject staff, Form Tutors and Learning Managers will know what youwill be aspiring to andwill regularlymeasure your targets against learning cycle assessments. These will be reported home, ensuring that we are all working towards the same goal. Is there life outside of study? Of course! We know that our students are creative, adventurous, inquisitive young adults and need more than qualifications. From sporting excellence to musical experience our Sixth Formers can build on their main school experience or make a fresh start! There is an enormous range of opportunities to learn outside the classroom. Perhaps leading House Drama is your thing or maybe something we have not even thought of yet! When we wave you off at the tremendous leavers’ ball we want to know that you are fully prepared for what follows. Student Leadership WetakeyourdevelopmentseriouslyandallSixthForm students participate in school service, sometimes in lessons or mentoring individual students. A wide range of charity work is undertaken and the Sixth Form Council works with the main school and the pastoral team to keep staff and students working together. Students have the opportunity to take on student leadership responsibilities through applying for a subject specific Foundation Governors Scholarship. Successful applicants become subject ambassadors helping to support and promote their subject area and earn a financial reward to help support their studies. Student voice is valued in the Sixth Form and we have a proactive student council and student senior leadership team. A message for Boroughbridge High School students We would like to extend a very warm welcome to pupils from Boroughbridge High School. Boroughbridge High School and King James’s School are federated. This means that there is one governing board for the two schools and that the staff work closely together. These close connections between the two schools mean that we can get to know the pupils from Boroughbridge High School and make their transition to Sixth form smoother. The teachers work together to plan and develop the curriculum, so we know what pupils have been studying at GCSE. We can find out more about pupils’ aims and aspirations from the pastoral team and this can help to support guidance and transition. The Director of Sixth Form at King James’s will be visiting Boroughbridge High School on a regular basis to provide sixth form information, support and guidance. There will also be the opportunity for interested students to visit King James’s throughout year 11. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome. 12
