Chemistry What’s it all about? Have you ever wondered... What is in a medicine? What new fuels do we need to develop? Why do onions make you cry? How is chemistry linked to art? Can you turn lead into gold? Study A Level Chemistry to find out the answers. This course will inspire you and bring chemistry to life. We want you to develop a passion for chemistry laying the foundations for you to study this subject further and choose a chemistry related career. We aim to help you develop skills which will be useful in any university course or in employment. A wide range of teaching and learning activities will be used to provide you with a very in-depth knowledge & understanding of Chemistry alongside mathematical and practical skills. We have an outstanding team of staff delivering the course within an inclusive and supportive environment. To get started: We require a grade 6 in Chemistry and one other science or Combined Science, competent practical skills and a grade 6 or above in Maths. Exam and Assessment Information: AQA A-Level Chemistry 7405 Emphasis throughout the course is on developing knowledge, competence and confidence in practical skills and problem solving. Youwill learn how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society. Assessment: A total of 6 hours of examinations taken at the end of the course (3 exams). A wide range of question types will be used including multiple choice, short answer and extended response questions. These examswill allowyou to demonstrateyour knowledge of theory, practical skills and maths skills. In addition to practical skills being assessed in the exams, your practical competency will also be assessed separately by your teachers. In addition to the technical ability and specialist knowledge, Chemistry gives you an extremelyflexible set of skills such as organisation, planning, analysis, problem -solving, numerical ability, teamwork and communication. All these are highly esteemed in the academic world, which are also essential for the ever-changing demands of the modern workplace. A Level Chemistry is a valued qualification and many scientific, clinical or even commercial courses either specifically require or prefer their candidates to have gained a post-16 qualification in Chemistry. It is also undertaken by a number of law applicants as it improves your level of attention to detail when navigating the intricacy of law. You might even want to study Chemistry just for the pure enjoyment that such a fusion of creativity and pure science can bring. Fundamentally, Chemistry helps you to understand the world around you and to appreciate the sophistication and order of the universe. It is important in our everyday lives and will be vital in helping the globe to respond to some of its biggest challenges such as pollution, energy and health. π Entry Requirements       Five GCSEs at Grade 4 and above including English AND Grade 6 in Maths, Grade 6 in Chemistry AND one other science OR 66 in Combined Science. 22
