Welcome John O’Hara Director of Sixth Form T hank you for your interest in King James’s Sixth Form. This prospectus aims to provide a brief snapshot into life in the Sixth Form, the opportunities available to our students, the support offered to help them achieve their potential and the vital information about the individual courses available. In September 2019 we moved into our new Sixth Form Centre. The new Sixth Form Centre has helped to develop even further our successful and high achieving Post 16 offer. The state of the art building both matches, and helps to deliver, our high aspirations and ambitions for every Sixth Form student. It is a space all students enjoy and flourish in. A fantastic development for the school and local community. King James’s Sixth Form is a vibrant, thriving community of valued individuals. We pride ourselves on maintaining our heritage and strong links with the wider King James’s School and community, while developing a unique Sixth Form experience, which emphasises support and ambition. Every student is challenged and supported through high quality teaching, bespoke learning and tailored advice. We believe that our close Sixth Form community and emphasis on developing independent study skills facilitate this individual support. The key to our success is a combination of raising aspirations, an ethos that promotes a thirst for learning and an endless belief in providing the best possible education for all students. A King James’s Sixth Form student should have the opportunity to leave school with the intellectual currency to enable them to become fully engaged citizens, capable of fulfilling their potential. We are ambitious with our students and want the very best life chances for all. The strength of our examination results, opens doors to many exciting options for students’ futures. Career pathways often vary; our experienced team support all students to enable them to reach their potential whatever that might be. This may be through further study at university or college, a gap year, apprenticeships or employment. Sixth Form can be a challenging time for students. We have developed a robust, flexible support structure to maintain students’ wellbeing and ensure that these years are also the most rewarding. A strong pastoral team led by our Learning Managers support students in the transition into Sixth Form and beyond, along with our dedicated Sixth Form Pastoral Officer and Form Tutors who provide one-to-one guidance and a team of careers, health and academic specialists. We also appreciate that there is more to Sixth Form than exams, and encourage our students to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities provided at King James’s to ensure a well-rounded education. The Sixth Form is an important stage of all our students’ education. We very much hope that you will pursue your interest in King James’s and join us in September.
