Information Technology - BTEC Level 3 What’s it all about? BTEC Level 3 Nationals in IT will prepare you for the constantly evolving digital sector, ensuring you have the knowledge and skills needed to work in the ever- changing world of Information Technology. • To select and use appropriate IT tools and techniques to help them carry out investigations, capture and handle data, solve problems, make decisions, and present and communicate information. • Explore how computer hardware, digital devices, and relevant software combine to form small- and large-scale systems. • Are aware of the benefits and drawbacks of IT and its impact on the way in which people live their lives. • Produce business-related content using appropriate features of social media which meet the requirements of the plan. • Be able to develop a database solution to meet a client brief with appropriate justification. • Make connections between the application of technologies, procedures, outcomes and solutions to resolve IT problems. • Produce a website for an intended audience and purpose. • Have an opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way. • Gain confidence through developing independent learning, communication and decision-making skills. ‘A recent survey by the CBI showed that 39% of the firms surveyed are struggling to recruit workeds with the IT skills they require’ To get started: This course is suitable for any student with a grade 4 in both Maths and English What next? This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT. It will develop key skills that are highly valued by employers and universities. Exam and Assessment Information: You will apply your learning through practical assessments in the form of internally assessed assignments and externally assessed tasks and written exams. Year 1 Creating systems for management information An assessment covering two days. In part A students will be provided with a brief to complete five activities in the set task in three hours on the afternoon of the first day. In part B, students will be provided with a brief to complete three activities in the set task in two hours on the morning of the second day. Using social media in business Internally assessed portfolio Year 2 Information and technology systems 2 hour written exam Website development Internally assessed portfolio This course is an A Level equivalent course and so you will be given grades based upon Exams and coursework. The grades are Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction * which all give UCAS points if you are thinking about university. Distinction is equivalent to an A grade at A Level.
