KJS Prospectus 2025-26
Learning Support Department The school has a highly regarded Learning Support Department. At King James’s School we believe it is essential to provide a well-balanced, challenging curriculum for all students and young people. We are committed to ensuring that all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), receive their right to a high quality, accessible and balanced curriculum. Our aim is to provide all children and young people with the best possible outcomes in preparation for life-long learning. We believe it is important that children acquire skills, knowledge and confidence that can be applied to all future learning experiences, including social, physical and spiritual development. We endeavour to raise aspirations and expectations for all students including those students with SEND by working in partnership with outside agencies, parents/carers and listening to the students themselves. We operate an inclusive support model enabling students to access a broad and balanced curriculumwhich can be personalised to meet individual need. Some students may receive targeted intervention programmes depending on identified need. The Learning Support Department works with teaching staff and the Year Teams to identify, assess and plan to meet the special educational needs of students at King James’s School. We have established strong transition links with primary schools so that we can make full use of the information provided by Year 6 teachers. Once at King James’s School, student progress is regularly monitored through the Learning Cycle process and, for those who have an Education, Health and Care Plan, through the Annual Review process. Our whole school policy for Inclusion and SEND is available on our website and outlines the steps taken to ensure that students with SEND are given equality of opportunity and access. Under our accessibility plan the school has been adapted to accommodate students with disabilities.
