Exams and Assessment Information • This GCSE is a 100% non-exam assessment. Work will be internally assessed by the school and externally moderated. • Component 1 – Portfolio - Non Exam Assessment (NEA) (60% of final grade) • Component 2 – Externally set assignment - Non Exam Assessment (NEA) (40% of final grade) What will I learn about? • How to design and create imaginative, personalised work inspired by the work of Artists • How to present your thoughts and ideas using high quality sketches/drawings • How to work with a wide range of different materials to produce original 3-Dimentional Artwork • How to adapt and develop a series of practical pieces exploring a range of techniques with the goal of recreating the work of famous Artists • Many different workshop skills including traditional joinery, brazing, steam bending, and lamination to name a few 3-D DESIGN How will I learn? • Majority of time will be spent in the workshops making sculptural works with a focus on how they look • Drawing and sketching ideas • Making a range of 3D products, prototypes and samples. Using traditional practical skills and modern technologies • Undertaking several projects and a well-balanced sketchpad/portfolio will be produced Where could 3D Design take me? • This creative and vocational qualification gives students the practical skills and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the more practical industries. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside gaining the knowledge and skills sought by Higher Education and employers. • This course would prepare learners for jobs in the vocational sector. Practical trades are a major employer in the UK offering a highly diverse and exciting range of career opportunities such as joinery, plumbing, construction and furniture-making in the manufacturing sector.
