Exams and Assessment Information • A one hour and 30 minute exam on Physical Geography – the challenge of natural hazards, the living world and UK physical landscapes (35% of final grade) • A one hour and 30 minute exam on Human Geography – urban issues and challenges, the changing economic world and the challenge of resource management (35% of final grade) • A one hour and 30 minute exam on geographical applications – issue evaluation and geographical skills (30% of final grade) What will I learn about? • The ways in which people interact with their environments through the study of both Human and Physical Geography • The ideas of sustainable development andunderstanding your role in caring for the environment • Different people’s opinions about the future of our world today, so that you understand issues that affect our planet currently • Case studies from a local, national and international perspective that include a whole range of geographical issues such as flooding in the UK to food shortages in African countries • How to use a range of skills that many employers are looking for today, such as the evaluation and analysis of data GEOGRAPHY How will I learn? • Following an enquiry-based approach where you are encouraged to learn by asking questions about places and geographical issues • Using a range of data such as Ordnance Survey maps, photographs and satellite images, sketch maps, cross sections and Geographic Information Systems to analyse and evaluate spatial patterns of data • Taking part in 2 days of fieldwork and collecting primary data to support your skills exam paper. • Taking part in a range of activities such as discussions, group work, role play, ICT, presentations and personal research Where could Geography take me? • Geography graduates have one of the highest rates of employment in a wide range of jobs such as chartered surveyor, architect, urban planner, estate agent, environmental engineer, cartographer, TV researcher, diplomat, lawyer, accountant and many more. • Geography is a subject which links well with Science or Humanities subjects and will develop skills that will support and enhance your studies in lots of other subjects. It helps to keep your options wide and open.
