Exams and Assessment Information • Paper 1:Medicine through time - (30% of final grade) • Paper 2: Period study (Cold War) and British depth study (Normans) - (40% of final grade) • Paper 3: Modern depth study (Germany) – (30% of final grade) What will I learn about? • Germany 1918 – 1939: This course examines Germany after WWI, the rise to power of the Nazis and life in Nazi Germany. You will discover why a democratic country elected a dictator who went on to start a world war and instigate the mass murder of the Jews of Europe. • Superpower relations and the Cold War 1941–91: It is impossible to understand the world today without understanding the events of the Cold War. You will examine the origins of the conflict, including an investigation of The Cuban Missile Crisis and the eventual easing of tensions between East and West. • Medicine in Britain 1250-present day: At its heart, this course is the story of the development of science and its place in British society. You learn about how Britain moves through a scientific revolution and study scientists who pioneer medical developments. There is also a case study on the Western Front during the First World War. • Anglo-Saxon andNorman England 1060-1088: 1066 is a landmark event in History. While the date is instantly recognisable, few realise the trauma and suffering the Norman Conquest wrought. This depth study, focused on the period 1060–1088, allows students to develop a deeper appreciation of this pivotal time in English history.
