Exams and Assessment Information • Exams at the end of your two year course in all 4 skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing ( each component is worth 25% of your final grade) What will I learn about? • Another culture and a different way of life • How to express yourself at length in everyday situations in another language - always an impressive skill! • How to develop your personal communication skills and have the confidence to talk in a variety of contexts • Interesting topical social issues in the French or German speaking worlds MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES How will I learn? • Undertaking listening and reading tasks in your chosen language • Speaking in practice role plays and pair work with a partner • Developing your writing, grammar and translation skills in your chosen language Where could Modern Foreign Languages take me? • Studying a language at A Level. • A language GCSE is considered highly by all employers due to the cognitive skills required to be successful. • It is a requirement of some university degree courses that are not language based. • It opens a world of communication and cultural awareness as well as opportunities within business, travel and • tourism. Course Specification & further information • We follow the AQA exam board for our language GCSEs • More information can be found on the AQA website • An information booklet will be given to you at the start of the course Additional Costs and Entry Requirements • A revision guide and workbook will be available to purchase through the languages department • The German Exchange and planned cultural visits to both France and Germany are optional but will improve your linguistic skills and knowledge of the country • There are no specific entry requirements for languages except having studied the same language in Year 9. It is not compulsory for students to study a language, however it is recommended that students capable should seriously consider choosing it, as it is a valuable skill that supports a range of further qualifications in the future. 1
