Exams and Assessment Information • Performing: solo and ensemble on your instrument or voice (30% of final grade) • Composing: two compositions throughout the course in any style or genre (30% of final grade) • Listening and analysing: a one hour and 15 minute listening exam of music from all genres and periods (40% of final grade) • Please note 60% is coursework that can be done at your own pace. What will I learn about? • Performing, both as a solo and in an ensemble • Developing an understanding of composition and how to create music • Analysing music through scores and aurally • Music of different cultures and styles through time • Skills in music technology and sound production • Rehearsing and creating music individually and in groups MUSIC How will I learn? • Group rehearsal and class performance • Listening, score reading and analysing music • Short composition tasks using computer software • Undertaking research topics on different styles of music • Creating music in a very practical way and using your chosen instrument or voice in group composition Where could Music take me? • It gives a perfect foundation for the skills required at A Level Music or Music Technology. • Writing music for your own band or group or becoming a professional composer! • Practical skills could lead you in the direction of being a professional musician and performer. • As music is skill-based it covers a wide range of skill sets which are useful in any field and it is a great contrast to more knowledge-based subjects.
