THE STRUCTURE OF KS4 Subject Time Allocation Outcomes English 9 Hours per fortnight 2 GCSEs graded 9-1 (9 being the best) in English Language and English Literature Maths 8 Hours per fortnight 1 GCSE graded 9-1 Combined Science 9 Hours per fortnight 2 GCSEs graded 9-1. All 3 sciences are studied (biology, chemistry and physics) Core PE 3 Hours per fortnight This is a non-examined course focusing on students being active participants in sport. PSHCEE 1 Hour per fortnight This is a non-examined course in personal, social, health, citizenship and economic education Key Stage 4 consists of Years 10 and 11 and is made up of 2 elements at King James’s School: The Core and the Options. This page explains more about what this means THE CORE These subjects are the ones that all students study at KS4 CORE OPTIONS & EXTENDED OPTIONS Subjects marked * are BTECs, + are Technical/Vocational Awards graded from pass to distinction and all of the others are full course GCSEs graded 9-1. Apart from Triple Science this adds 5 hours to the 9 hours already allocated in ‘The Core’; these students therefore have a total of 14 hours of Science per fortnight. ENGLISH BACCALAUREATE (EBacc) This is a performance measure for schools that reports on how many students have achieved a good pass in 5 specific subject areas. Those subjects are as follows: • English • Maths • 2 Sciences (including Computer Science) • History or Geography • A foreign language HOW A TYPICAL WEEK WILL LOOK Our lessons are one hour long and therefore students will have a total of 50 hours in a fortnight spread across their different subjects as illustrated in the chart:
